Craft and Cultural and Agriculture Tour of Assam and Nagaland

This tour focuses on the Angami Naga of Nagaland and the Karbi, Mishing and Assamese people of Assam. It is designed to give ample opportunity to interact with artisans, farmers and locals to offer an authentic experience. The tour explores culture from a holistic perspective looking at the interconnected nature of craft, culture and agriculture.

- Workshops with artisans in mask-making, bamboo craft and weaving. Learn about indigenous silks and raw materials.

- Visit Majuli island in the Brahmaputra river, the cultural and spiritual heart of Assam.

- Jeep safaris in Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

- Visit Khonoma village in Nagaland, learn about the history, culture and vision for the future from this community driven venture.

-  Biodiversity walks in forests and agricultural fields. Gentle walks in tea estates and along river banks.

- Traditional dance performances

The Culture of People and Biodiversity
Tour of Assam and Meghalaya

15th - 27th February 2025

The focus of this tour is on the cultures of people living in harmony with their natural surroundings. It explores the traditional knowledge systems of people who are vital yet humble custodians of the biodiversity  in Assam and Meghalaya. We will visit Khasi, Karbi, Mishing and Assamese communities.

-  Trek to the living root bridges of Meghalaya. Learn about the indigenous Khasi approach to problem solving through nature.

- Boat trips on the Brahmaputra and Dhansiri rivers. Observe the topography of the flood plains and the human engagement with the rivers’ ecosystems.

- Jeep safaris in Kaziranga National Park, interact with communities living on the fringes of the park.

- Learn about the indigenous raw materials used in local craft.

- Eat clean, fresh and local food. Interact with farmers and village cooks to understand the agricultural and culinary habits.

- Local cultural performances.
